Montzen
Gare - bei Nacht
|
|||||
seitdem.

Montzen Railway Station - by night
|
|||||
| The station of Montzen - built in the year 1917 - is still an important stop for international carriers - due to the necessary change of locomotives. In 1919 also regional passenger trains were established. Due to the German occupation the station became a border station in 1940, where the deportation trains rolled from Belgium to the extermination camps in the east. The short time span of the locomotive exchange was the last chance for some prisoners to escape the certain death. 1944 the station was damaged by bombs, the full operation was resumed until 1948. 1957 was the last year with regular passenger traffic. |
Meanwhile some other freight lines are out of service and changes in
European customs control made the customs halls of the station becoming abandoned.
The train inside served as a staff-transporter on the large station grounds and
belongs now to a private museum in Hombourg.
